            <text>Karl Deninger studied in Freiburg and Munich and was awarded his doctorate in geology and paleonthology in 1902. He participated in a number of excursions and expeditions, one of which brought him to Maluku (Buru and Seram) in 1907. Building up on this experience, he initiated the "II. Freiburg Moluccan Expedition." Upon his return, he became adjunct professor at the University of Freiburg. With the beginning of the First World War, he joined the German regiment as lieutenant and received several awards for his services on the battlefield. He died in Italy during the battles at Piave River at the age of 39.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sources:&lt;br /&gt;
