Curatorial notes
Papeda is a kind of porridge made from sago flour and water. Due to its sticky consistency, forks or sticks are needed to removed it from the pot. In his publication Patasiwa und Patalima: Vom Molukkeneiland Seran und seinen Bewohnern (1918, Leipzig: R. Voigtländer), Odo D. Tauern included images of compareable forks ("popeda-Gabeln"), see tables 99 a-d.
