According to Odo Deodatus Tauern's puplication Patasiwa und Patalima: Vom Molukkeneiland Seran und seinen Bewohnern (1918, Leipzig: R. Voigtländer), p. 142-43: "The trophy signs on the Tjidako (on the backside and the ends) refer to the number and kind of hunted heads. One ring refers to a woman's or child's head, two rings refer to a man's head. For every other head, one or two rings will be painted around the others.
